    Around 7:30 mins, is it better to create soil pits for them and is this just to save on resources or is it best to plant in clay... ? Thanks!

    • @StefanSobkowiak
      @StefanSobkowiak День тому

      Pits in clay are the pits. They act like a pot and can hold water causing water logging and killing some trees, if you are in a temperate climate with regular rains. Plant in clay and mulch heavily.

    I planted nuts in my garden 3 years ago. I had planned to transplant them in the fall when the leaves fell off. They didn’t come up the first year at all. The second year, I thought they had died. They started coming up and I was shocked. I was told by the person we got the nuts they would only grow 1-2’ per year. The second year they were as tall as me. We didn’t get them transplanted because I had surgery twice and just didn’t get it done. This is the 3rd year and they are upwards of 6-7’ tall. How and when would you recommend me trying to transplant them at this stage or should I just cut them off and try again? I’ve planted more seeds but as the first seeds they aren’t germinating this year so far.

      Probably best to cut and start again. At that size the taproot will be large. Worth trying with one or two to see.

    I have 5 plum trees, and they were putting out plenty of fruit when I bought my home. 2 are side by side, and 3 are behind the house side by side. They put out for 2 years, and then they stopped. Why did they stop? I have never had fruit trees before, so I'm not knowledgeable at all on fruit trees. If you can, please help. I loved having having fresh fruit. I don't see any bees around at all. is that the problem? 🤔 plenty of wasps.

    • @StefanSobkowiak

      When it’s that sudden of a change that means the tree that was pollinating them has died or was cut down. I suspect thé 5 May be one cultivar (variety) and don’t cross pollinate (fruit sex). So you would need a different cultivar of the same group. Blue or European if the plums were blue, Japanese if they were red or black but they may be American if red or yellow. Plums are the trickiest for pollination.

    Monterey County California, within sight of the Pacific Ocean, the ground is sand. It seems to repel water. Pouring water on top, it does not sink in. Weird!! Surprised me because, I grew up on the black soil of the US Great Plains. About 15 years ago, I started mixing wood chips and actual big branches into the soil. Dug down at least a meter deep, little by little, section by section, until the whole yard was turned over. Wood chips were added on top only, as needed for dog poop zone and to shade the soil to resist evaporation. No other compost added. (After the first year, we had way too much kitchen compost for the small property. Dogs wanted to dig it up, eat and roll in it. Haha. We let the city compost it.) At this point, we went thru a normal dry summer and I only soaked 4 times in 8+ months. The yard is in a city, not a big lot, but I terraced it with micro-burms and swales, trying to keep any rain we might get on the property. Now, I am sad... because the yard is super happy!!! It has deep rooted bushes, a couple 20 year old trees towering high, happy little mushrooms and even fat earth worms who showed up on their own! So, I am sad because I need more projects... more hopeless soil please? ... I want to save more land, not just trim bushes. Hahaha.

      p.s. The property is designed as a micro-food forest... For BIRDS!!! We get tons of hummingbirds nesting and being territorial. Scrub Jays, crows, and oh so many other species visit every day. Our central tree is a night time sleeping location for scores of a small species that gather in large groups year round.

    I grow dandelions, I harvest the roots to dehydrate and then roast and make into tea. The leaves (after flowering) can be harvested and dried for a great ice tea. In the spring (before flowering) I harvest the leaves and make into a "Korean" salad... as per my Korean neighbor who taught me how to make it. for fun I have grown white flowered dandelions and pink and yellow dandelions. I have not made dandelion wine yet... maybe this year.

    +, 33 совет логичен, НО, сладкими плодами дерево кормит микробиоту, что даёт "лучшую жизнь" дереву. Вы наверно слышали про Эффективные Микроорганизмы? И при их разведении/размножении добавляют сладкое: сахар, старое варенье, милассу. Тоже самое делает дерево, сбрасывая свои плоды. Стоит над этим подумать, Земля-Матушка мудра.;) На самом деле всё проще и сложнее одновременно. Дерево "желает" - в этом году не хочу сильно расти. И Вселенная говорит ей: "ОК", и куча тли нападает на него, исполняя его желание:) Но чаще дерево исполняет желание человека, ведь сейчас мысли его ОЧЕНЬ хаотичны. Достаточно часто замечаю, причины того или иного роста/ослабления растений, связанных с моими "пожеланиями", правда осознаю их только когда дерево "исполнило" его:) П.С.: куры в помощь, не зря же их Боженька сотворил;)

    HAW HAW HAW ... "compacted soil" ... we need a pick during dry season ... soil is hard as cement ... I admit to trying to the best of my abilities to drive the poor things to extinction, but otherwise I'm glad to have the spots of color here and there, especially during winter when really nothing else is blooming ... also the deep tap root will bring up trace nutrients from the sub-soil ... I'm going with "love" singularly because they have no thorns ... I only hate roses ...
